PLEASE, PASS UP THE SALT

By: R. Ellis Smith

Please, pass the "Salt"... "NO! I mean "pass up the salt."

My wife and I were at Carrows Restaurant the other day and she remarked how salty the food tasted. She has stopped using table salt recently because her doctor told her that her blood pressure was a bit high, I have never used table salt anyway; so I can really tell when the food is over salted. Now she can finally realize how much salt (sodium) the restaurants actually put into their food. Something I have been telling her for years.

The American Heart Association recommends you use less than 1500 mg of salt daily to reduce the chance of High Blood Pressure. Americans are so used to the heavy salt content of their favorite "fast food" they use on average over 3500 mg per day. I have even witnessed people use added salt on their McDonald's French Fries. The first thing most people reach for when their food is on the table is the "Salt Shaker" and that is even before they have tasted anything.

Carrow's prints a Nutritional Information packet so you can easily see what the sodium content of their foods are. Here are a few examples:

  • Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs, one of my favorites, has 1420mg of sodium; there goes that daily intake.
  • Bacon and Onion Griddle Combo - 1190 mg of sodium
  • Golden Stack of Pancakes... Believe it or not... This one has 1560mg of sodium. Dang eat a stack of cakes and there goes you salt intake for the day, too.
  • Fresh Baked Biscuits and Sausage Gravy... (another of my favorites)... has 2450 mg of sodium, whoops, there goes almost two days worth of sodium.
  • Boneless Buffalo Chicken Wings ...hold on to yer hat, this one has ... 2890 mg of sodium.
  • Mile High Roast Beef Melt...whoo weeee, now that's salty...2790 mg of sodium.
  • Slice of Apple Pie... sounds good huh?....contains 570mg of sodium, that's 1/3 of the daily recommended daily allowance. In a slice of pie???
Now these are only a few of the items on their menu; however, it is indicative of most public restaurants and some have even higher sodium content in their offerings. So as I stated, do yourself and your heart and blood pressure a favor..... "PASS UP THE SALT PLEASE". Rellis Smith

CALIFORNIA CHILE PRESENTS
ATOMIC HORSERADISH

By: R. Ellis Smith

www.californiachile.com is the HOME SITE of CALIFORNIA CHILE. Our signature product is "Atomic Horseradish". It is manufactured in California and is the Tastiest, Hottest, most Flavorful Horseradish in the Universe, it is also Kosher. If you are a true Horseradish lover you will never eat another brand of Horseradish as long as you live. All of the other products you will find on our website are equally delicious and wonderful.

Atomic Horseradish was first developed in Ventura California by a husband and wife team who sold it out of the back of their car for over 10 years. Subsequently, it was sold to Challenge dairy then to a Ventura Native who was able to introduce Atomic Horseradish to the Casinos and Restaurants in Las Vegas and Reno, Nevada where it is still used by all of them.

When he decided to retire and move to his farm in Oregon he sold the Atomic Horseradish Company to Moorhouse Mustard Company who is manufacturing it today. California Chile is the only place on the Internet where you can buy Atomic Horseradish and be assured your order will ship the same day.
