    Officer(s) Involved:
    VPD Patrol Officers/Traffic Investigators
Victim(s): Dennis Oliver - 47 yrs. Ventura Resident
    Report #: 11-2999

    Narrative:

On 03/18/11, at about 6:56 a.m., the Ventura Police Department Command Center received a 9-1-1 call regarding an injury traffic collision in the 2600 block of North Ventura Avenue. Numerous Ventura Police Department Patrol Officers and Ventura City Firefighters responded to the collision.

When police and fire arrived, they found a single vehicle collision into a palm tree. There was only one occupant in the vehicle and he was trapped inside the wreckage. Fire personnel attempted to assist the victim; however, he was not responsive and was ultimately pronounced as deceased at the scene.

Ventura Police Department Traffic Investigators responded to the collision site in order to conduct an investigation. Based on witness statements and evidence at the scene, it appeared that the vehicle was traveling northbound on Ventura Avenue north of Seneca Avenue when the vehicle veered to the right, left the roadway, and collided with a large palm tree. The vehicle struck the palm tree head on and then came to rest. According to witness statements, no other vehicles were involved. The reason for the vehicle veering off of the roadway is unknown at this time.

The victim inside the vehicle was identified as Dennis Oliver, a 47-year old Ventura resident. The cause of the collision is still under investigation by Ventura Police Department traffic investigators. Some witnesses to the collision were identified at the scene. If there are any other witnesses to the collision, they are urged to contact the Ventura Police Department Traffic Unit, at (805) 339-4309.
