Reino Rd., Newbury Park Unit Responsible: Thousand Oaks Police Department / Special Enforcement Gang Unit (S)uspects, (V)ictims, (W)itnesses Address Age (S) Juvenile Newbury Park 16 (S) Juvenile Newbury Park 17 (S) Juvenile Simi Valley 16 Narrative: On March 4th, 2011, the victim was confronted by five subjects after playing a game of basketball. The suspects surrounded the victim and said they had felt disrespected. The suspects ordered the victim to give them his personal property. Fearing for his safety, the victim complied with the suspects' demands. After taking the property, the suspects fled the area. Within the next week, members of the Thousand Oaks Special Enforcement Unit were able to positively identify four of the five suspects. During the investigation, it was determined that the suspects are documented members of a local criminal street gang. On March 16th, 2011, several specialized units within the Office of the Sheriff served four search warrants and located three of the suspects. They were subsequently arrested and booked for violations of 211PC / Robbery and 186.22 PC / Street Terrorism. Two suspects are still outstanding and the investigation is continuing. PDT Incident: Fatal Traffic Collision Location: 2600 Block/Ventura Avenue Date Of Incident: 03/18/11 Time Occurred: 0656 hours. Officer(s) Involved: VPD Patrol Officers/Traffic Investigators Victim(s): Dennis Oliver - 47 yrs. Ventura Resident Report #: 11-2999 Narrative: On 03/18/11, at about 6:56 a.m., the Ventura Police Department Command Center received a 9-1-1 call regarding an injury traffic collision in the 2600 block of North Ventura Avenue. Numerous Ventura Police Department Patrol Officers and Ventura City Firefighters responded to the collision. When police and fire arrived, they found a single vehicle collision into a palm tree. There was only one occupant in the vehicle and he was trapped inside the wreckage. Fire personnel attempted to assist the victim; however, he was not responsive and was ultimately pronounced as deceased at the scene. Ventura Police Department Traffic Investigators responded to the collision site in order to conduct an investigation. Based on witness statements and evidence at the scene, it appeared that the vehicle was traveling northbound on Ventura Avenue north of Seneca Avenue when the vehicle veered to the right, left the roadway, and collided with a large palm tree. The vehicle struck the palm tree head on and then came to rest. According to witness statements, no other vehicles were involved. The reason for the vehicle veering off of the roadway is unknown at this time. The victim inside the vehicle was identified as Dennis Oliver, a 47-year old Ventura resident. The cause of the collision is still under investigation by Ventura Police Department traffic investigators. Some witnesses to the collision were identified at the scene. SEPARATE SHOOTINGS OCCURRED ON WEEKEND OF 03/12/11 Source: https://local.nixle.com Posted: 03/20/11
Suspect(s): Unknown Report #: 11-2761 Narrative: The Ventura Police Department is investigating two separate shootings that occurred this weekend. The first shooting occurred on 3-12-11 at about 1945 hrs where an unknown type vehicle occupied by several subjects drove down S. Saticoy Av and fired several rounds near the neighborhood on the 1500 block of S. Saticoy Av. There were no reports of injuries during this shooting. The second shooting occurred on 3-13-11 at about 2200 hrs where witnesses heard several shots being fired near the railroad tracks and Saticoy Av. There were no reports of injuries during this shooting. Currently the investigation into these shootings is on going and the Ventura Police Detectives are looking at several different leads including whether this was a gang-motivated crime. At this time there is no one in custody. Anyone with information into these incidents is encouraged to call the Ventura Police Department or Crime Stoppers.
